Getting Started
Source: app_description_and_user_feedback_noted
- Step 1: Download the Nextdoor app and create an account using your real name and address for verification (this is required to join the correct neighborhood).
- Step 2: Complete the address verification process as prompted; if you encounter errors, try troubleshooting steps like reinstalling or clearing cache as suggested by other users.
- Step 3: Set your notification preferences carefully in the settings menu to avoid unwanted emails, as the app has many notification categories and may auto-subscribe you to new ones.
- Step 4: Explore the main feed for local news and alerts, but be aware that ads may appear frequently and can be hidden individually.

How this content was created
Content type: pattern_analysis_of_user_reviews_and_metadata
AI generated: Yes
- Google Play user reviews (12-20 preferred; may be smaller if source data is limited per app), October 27, 2024 to April 09, 2026
- Google Play ratings distribution
- App Store listing metadata
- Review samples are not statistically representative of all user sentiment
- High-engagement negative reviews can overrepresent complaints
- Claims labeled 'low confidence' are based on single-review observations only
- No real-world app testing was conducted
- Feature availability may vary by region, device, and app version
- Only recent_reviews were available; no high-engagement negative/positive or mixed reviews were present, limiting the sample and potentially skewing sentiment

3★Hiding ads means nothing. On this app, the same ad appears every few posts. You have the option of hiding it, but you're still going to see the next one. And the next one. Etc. Even resetting the app doesn't matter, the ad will still show up in your feed. Some ads I DO NOT want to see. The result is avoiding the app. It's that the goal here, Nextdoor?

1★When I search for "lost cat," the top two results are ads. The next is a veterinarian, and after that is a hardware store?? Even though it's set to "all," it shows businesses, pages (unrelated to lost pets), and events before it gets to groups/posts relevant to my search. Didn't think this app could get any worse than it was before... clearly I was wrong.

2★I WANT to like this app, but it frustrates me. I can't seem to figure out a way to look at JUST my immediate neighborhood at a click of a button, I don't care what is happening a few miles away most of the time - I really would like to filter by neighborhood. I'm seeing posts from last week but not newer posts, the posts I can find seem to not be in order at all. However, I'm definitely seeing tons of sponsored ads, every other post actually. I get it, it's free, but can we tone ads down a bit?

1★I've had this app for six months and after reinstalling, clearing the cache, turning location on, trying every single troubleshooting step in the book, I've never once been able to get it to work. I'm required to verify my address in my state, and whenever I try to do so, I get an error message. "Sorry, we're having trouble verifying. Let's take a stroll and get back to this later!" Well it's been six months Nextdoor. I just don't care anymore.

1★Awful. I kept getting emails from the app, even after unsubscribing from everything. There's a million different categories you can get notifications from, and you have to go into each and unsubscribe each individually. Plus, when they add a new category, they automatically subscribe you to that category! I was getting 6-7 emails a day, I would turn them off, the next day I would get those same emails! I deactivated and STILL recieved emails! DELETE THIS APP!
