Can I access my files offline with Dropbox?
low

Yes, the app allows you to access files even offline. However, some recent user reviews (from February 2026) indicate that recent changes may restrict offline access to all data—one user reported you cannot sync everything to a Windows computer anymore. This appears to be a newer limitation that may affect long-term users.

Does Dropbox work well on Android?
medium

Dropbox has over 1 billion downloads and an overall rating of 4.4 from over 2 million reviews, indicating broad compatibility. However, a recent review (January 2026) mentions login screen freezing on the Android app, which may point to a bug affecting some users. Long-term users generally praise its reliability, but recent changes have frustrated some.

How to Use

Dropbox lets you backup, sync, and share files and photos across devices with automatic camera uploads, file previews, and document scanning. (app_description)

Getting Started

Source: app_description_and_user_feedback_noted

  1. Download and install the Dropbox app from Google Play.
  2. Sign up for a free account or start a free trial of Dropbox Plus for 2 TB of storage.
  3. Enable auto-upload for photos and videos from your camera roll to back them up to the cloud.
  4. Upload files from your device or sync folders from your PC/Mac using computer backup.

Key Features (from app listing)

Source: app_description

  • Automatic photo and video backup from camera roll.
  • Offline access to files and preview of over 175 file types without special software.
  • Share large files via links even with non-Dropbox users.
  • Scan documents, receipts, and IDs into high-quality PDFs using your phone camera.
Pro Tip: To avoid constant prompts about storage space, review your sync settings on a desktop computer. The mobile app does not currently allow disabling auto-sync, which recent users say leads to repetitive upgrade nudges.

Derived from a recent user review (February 2026) complaining that auto-sync control and upgrade pestering can only be managed from a desktop, not from the mobile app.

They should be paying me to store information, not the other way around. The most latest downgrade that I noticed was that you have to shut off the auto sync on a desktop computer as it will not let you do it from a mobile device or tablet. Otherwise, it keeps pestering you about buying more space. BTW, doing a Google Mass file download is a trainwreck! Everything is in the wrong spot

I transitioned to Dropbox while seeking a robust solution for offloading data from my external hard drives. Although initially intended as a short-term bridge, it became a long-term fixture in my workflow for several years. Dropbox served as a reliable repository, but it ultimately functioned more as a static storage locker than a dynamic workspace. For my purposes, the "vibe" and utility didn't quite scale with my operational requirements. Always room for improvement though.

Had it over 10 yrs. then it changed. Now you can't have offline access to all of your data. In other words, if you cancel the service, you lose a large portion of all your data. They changed the system so you can no longer sync everything onto your Windows computer. They now only allow you to sync a small portion of your data. Furthermore they no longer offer live support for the base plan. Chatbot sucks!. The base plan is very expensive for what you get. They should at least offer live support.

I have used Dropbox for at least 10 years, on different operating systems, and always had excellent experiences. unlike Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, you don't have to wonder if your files actually uploaded. The interface is always simple to understand, and the free plan has generous storage, considering that it's free. I am very security-conscious so I appreciate the fact that the app does not my information with third parties.

I've been a paid subscriber for years, but I'm at the end of my wits! The app logged me out of my account on my phone app (Android) and will not allow me to sign in at all. The login screen "freezes" before I can even finish entering my email address. Once it freezes, nothing I press works/ does anything. I have cleared my cache, data, force stopped, rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled NUMEROUS TIMES and nothing is working! I have a PAID subscription with only 2 devices connected. FIX?
